Sources: Kelvin Sampson Fired
According to Jeff Goodman of FOXSports.com, Indiana head coach Kelvin Sampson has coached his final game for the Hoosiers. He was informed early this morning that he has been terminated and will no longer coach at Indiana. An official announcement is expected to come on Friday, although Indiana director of media relations J.D. Campbell denied the entire report. The sources also say that there is a team meeting at 3:00 local time where the players will be notified of the decision. Indiana assistant coach Dan Dakich will likely step into the vacancy left by Sampson.
Last Wednesday, an NCAA report detailing five major rules violations by Sampson was made public by the university. Among those violations were improper phone calls to recruits, and then giving false information to NCAA and university investigators. Sampson was already on NCAA probation for making improper phone calls while at Oklahoma.
Update: Sampson cannot be fired and has not been notified of his future yet, according to Andy Katz of ESPN.com. Goodman has another report, now saying that Sampson will likely be suspended for the remainder of the season.
