Wise Out for Regular Season

Arizona sophomore point guard Nic Wise underwent arthroscopic knee surgery for a torn left meniscus on Wednesday, and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season. Interim head coach Kevin O'Neill said Wise will likely be out four to six weeks, which would place his recovery date at the Pac-10 Tournament or the NCAA Tournament. "We're going to miss Nic big time,'' O'Neill said. "He's been a very valuable part of our team.''

Wise, the Wildcats' sixth man, is averaging 8.3 points and 4.0 assists per game, is second in the Pac-10 in three-point percentage (49.1%) and leads the conference in steals (1.8). According to O'Neill, Wise suffered the injury last week in Arizona's win over USC, yet he was still able to play 68 minutes against the Trojans and UCLA. "We have to move forward,'' O'Neill said. "We'd rather move forward with everyone healthy but unfortunately that's not the case. I have a lot of faith that this team will step up. We have to regroup and play basketball. They're not going to cancel any games.''
