Road to Selection Sunday

Happy Selection Sunday, folks. The most important date of the college basketball season is upon us. With about six hours left until the NCAA Tournament is revealed, the Field of 65 is almost filled. If Mississippi State or Minnesota win their respective conference tournament titles later today, bubble teams across the nation will become even more nervous than they already are. The last two or three days of the major conference tournaments have made the teams going to the Big Dance up in the air, especially the last two spots or so.

Here's my breakdown of the tournament as of 12:00 PM:

ACC (5): Duke, Maryland, Clemson, Florida State, Wake Forest
Big East (8): Syracuse, West Virginia, Georgetown, Villanova, Pittsburgh, Marquette, Notre Dame, Louisville
Big Ten (4): Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan State
Big 12 (7): Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma State
Pac-10 (1): Washington
SEC (3): Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee
Atlantic-10 (3): Temple, Richmond, Xavier
Conference-USA (1): Houston
Mountain West (4): New Mexico, BYU, San Diego State, UNLV
West Coast (2): Gonzaga, Saint Mary’s
WAC (1): New Mexico State

Automatic bids from one-bid leagues: 20

That adds up to 59 teams, leaving 6 spots still open.

The teams likely to receive bids are:
Georgia Tech
UTEP
Utah State
California

Therefore, the teams in the mix for those final two bids are:
Virginia Tech
Minnesota
Illinois
Mississippi State
Florida
