Duke sophomore center Brian Zoubek broke his left foot in practice on Monday and is out indefinitely, according to head coach Mike Krzyzewski. It was the second time since the summer that the seven-footer has broken his foot. "This is a setback from Brian and for the team," Krzyzewski said in a statement. "He worked hard to recover from the injury over the summer and was beginning to solidify his role with the team." Zoubek was averaging 4.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.
This is a bigger loss for the Blue Devils than the numbers would suggest. Zoubek is Duke's lone legitimate post player and only player taller than 6-foot-8 on the team. Without him, Krzyzewski will have to go with a much smaller line-up, including 6-foot-8 combo forwards Kyle Singler and Lance Thomas potentially playing center. It will be interesting to see how Duke matches up with some of the more talented post players in the ACC given its lack of size.
