Purdue head coach Matt Painter announced yesterday that there is no timetable for the return of sophomore Robbie Hummel, who has been suffering from a back injury for over two months.
"Robbie Hummel can play in the Illinois game, he might sit out two weeks or he might sit out the rest of the year," Painter said. "We have to continuously reevaluate his situation. He can make progress or take a step backwards."
Hummel has missed three games this season, including Tuesday's overtime loss at Ohio State, and he has not practiced in more than a month. "You don't practice for a month, and that rest is supposed to help you get better and it's not working, you have to start holding him out of games, too," Painter said.
The Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year is averaging 12.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this season.
